Making ceramic plates with slabs.
To flip a large slab you will need two pieces of canvas larger than the slab will be.
Avoiding the creation of a grain while making slabs is easy and quite straight forward.
Place newspaper pattern on slab and cut out plate using a fettling knife a plastic picnic knife works well for elementary age artists.
And later place one more piece of cotton cloth on top of the slab and place another plywood on top of it.
Thinner plates are more likely to warp.
Save leftover clay for feet balls of clay for feet by hand or foot coil of clay for foot by wheel.
Use the excess clay to build support pieces then curve the edges.
Make sure clay wetness is very uniform.
First roll out the ceramic.
When rolling slabs make sure you roll it out evenly in all directions otherwise you could compress one side more than.
